The Role of Titanium Plate in Modern Industries

Titanium is a strong and very durable and is also lighter than ceramic because of the low density and non corrosive property. There are a number of titanium products on today's market, for example: titanium bar, plate, block, and so on. Titanium plate is available in widths and lengths based on material choice .  It is commonly used in manufacturing today, with the most popular grades being 2 and 5. Grade 2 is the commercially pure titanium used in most of the chemical processing plants and is cold formable; and grade 5 is the aerospace grade and is not cold formable, so it is used more often when no forming is needed.

Titanium was discovered in Cornwall, Great Britain, by William Gregor in 1791 and named by Martin Heinrich Klaproth for the Titans of Greek mythology. Titanium minerals are quite common. Titanium occurs primarily in the minerals anatase, brookite, ilmenite, leucoxene, perovskite, rutile, and sphene.

Titanium and titanium alloys have in a relatively short time become backbone materials for the aerospace, energy and chemical industries. This is because titanium has a number of advantages, for example: excellent corrosion resistance. As a building material, titanium is free from pitting corrosion crevice corrosion or stress corrosion cracking. In addition, titanium possesses high strength when alloyed with additional metals and elements; this can produce the desired level of strength or ductility – titanium is just as strong as steel. And titanium is very thin, conductive oxide surface film; hard, smooth surface that limits adhesion of foreign materials. Titanium plate offers unsurpassable strength and corrosion resistance for demanding projects.

In addition, titanium is a metal which shows highest compatibility with the human body. This is the reason why most medical devices, that are to be fitted inside the body are made of titanium.   As a matter of fact, titanium is widely used in nuclear power plants, oil refinery heat exchangers, food processing plants, marine components and medical prostheses.

Recently, titanium jewelry has increased in popularity over the last few years. It is produced by sophisticated machines that carefully carve and hone perfectly formed pieces as an industrial metal. And rings were the first type of jewelry to be constructed from titanium, and new technology was tested to create engraved designs and inlaid diamonds and gems. Titanium rings offer several unique properties: they are biocompatible, lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and have the highest strength-to-weight ratio of any crystalline metal.
