Tantalum Information

Tantalum Ore is a natural mineral formation containing tantalum which is mostly used in the production of electronic components. The main minerals of tantalum ores are columbite-tantalite, tantalite and manganotantalite, wodginite, and microlite. Tantalum ores are concentrated by gravitational methods for extracting tantalum. Tantalum has unique electrical, chemical, and physical properties and therefore used as tantalum metal powder in the production of electronic components like tantalum capacitors. It can be alloyed with other metals and used in making cemented carbide tools for metal working equipment, and is also used in the production of super alloys for jet engine components.

Tantalum occurs naturally in mineral tantalite and is highly corrosion resistant. It can be drawn into thin wires or filaments because of its ductility. Tantalum can be used as a valuable substance for laboratory equipment because of its chemical inertness and thus can substitute the need for platinum.  The largest deposits of tantalum ores are found in Canada, Brazil, Zaire, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Australia, Malaysia, and Thailand. Australia, Brazil, Canada, Congo (Kinshasa), Ethiopia, and Rwanda are leading tantalum ore producers.
